Guy's Story

“It got to the point where drinking was ruling me…”

Although a history of addiction ran in Guy’s family, he never dreamed that alcohol would take over his life. “It was all fun and games until I hit my late twenties,” he says. “Then it got to the point where drinking was ruling me.”

Over the years, his addiction landed him in trouble with the law, damaged his marriage and weakened his faith in God. But Guy was always able to hold down a job, so he convinced himself that he didn’t have a problem. “I couldn’t see that I was a functioning alcoholic.”

That all changed when Guy’s wife filed for divorce. His heart was broken, and for the first time in his life, he began drinking on the job. “I got fired. That’s when I realized I’d burned every bridge. I needed to stop drinking. I was ready for change.”

Guy entered our Christian Life Discipleship Program, where Bible studies, faith-based addiction recovery and Christian counseling restored his faith and showed him a new way to live. “The Mission helped me build a strong, personal relationship with Christ and gave me a new outlook on life,” he says.

“I have a firm foundation in Christ.”

Guy was equipped to be the godly husband he’d always wanted to be, and he found his soulmate on our Women’s Program staff. “We’ve been married five years now and life is good,” he says with a smile.

He’s on our staff, as well, serving as our Driver, sharing his testimony and helping others find the healing and hope he’s found at the Mission. “They gave so much to me and I want to continue giving back and being a light to others.”

Guy is thankful for the way you have answered God’s calling to love your neighbor as yourself – and have helped him learn how to love himself. “I was hopeless, but the Mission gave me love, guidance and acceptance. Now I’m filled with hope.”
